Government Priortises Food Security

Government says issues of food security and nutrition are top of its agenda.

Minister of Community Development and Social Welfare, Emerine Kabanshi says government is interested to see that the remarkable strides that the country has made in reducing malnutrition, are sustained.

“The forth coming Nutrition for Growth Summit in Rio this year provides a chance to review advancements that have been made over the last years since the previous summit in 2013, where Zambia had pledged to cut malnutrition by 50% by 2023.”

Urban Mothers Walk for Maternal Health

Several Ngos march for Maternal HealthThe Zambia Health Alliance for Maternal Neonantal and Child Health Committee held an awareness march on Saturday 17th March 2015 in order to raise awareness on the challenges that rural Zambian women face in child birth.

The walk was meant to create empathy on the hardships that rural mothers face due to the long distances they expereince from their homes to the clinics whenever they are in labour.

Save the Children’s State of the Worlds Mothers (SOWM) Report was started in 2000 and is released annually to highlight the key challenges facing mothers and children worldwide. The Report avails governments the opportunity to know the prevailing health status of mothers and children as it highlights critical maternal and child indicators of a given country. Based on the SOWM statistics, government and other stakeholders can make informed decisions regarding mothers and children.
